Embossed Leather Sunglass Case

It's been awhile hasn't it?  Isaac is finally settling into more of a routine, and that routine seems to include at least one good nap (yay!).  So as long as I don't also nap with him I should be having more time to try out new projects and recipes to post about.  Then I might get back here a little more often :).  I've actually tried out 3 new brownie recipes in the last few weeks with varying levels of success.  Hopefully I can get those figured out and shared with you soon.

But until then I thought I'd share this fun thing I made last week.  I'm currently on vacation in Savannah, Georgia.  My dad and step-mom came out to visit me in Raleigh and invited Abi, Isaac and I to join them on a trip down to Charleston, South Carolina and Savannah.  Brad had to stay and work, but we're having a blast without him.



While I was packing I realized that I didn't have a case for my sunglasses.  I knew that I would be wearing them and taking them on and off all day so I wanted something to protect them in my bag.  So I decided to do what any self respecting person in need of something that could be DIY'd pretty easily would do.  I got on Pinterest :).  That's where I found this great tutorial with a free pattern for the case.



Here is what you will need to complete this project:

Pattern for case (found in the tutorial)
Leather (I bought mine from Mood last time I was in NYC)
Felt (I used some wool felt I had on hand, but I love the blends from Benzie Designs)
WonderUnder (I used this instead of the leather glue from the tutorial.  Just make sure you iron the felt side, not the leather)
Sewing floss in coordinating
Evolution (or other die cut machine)
Embossing Folder (I used Sketchbook from Lifestyle Crafts)

I just followed the directions and used the patterns from that great tutorial from Whimsy Box.  It was so quick and easy.  Once I had finished their steps I added one more.

After the case was completely finished I placed it inside the embossing folder and ran it through the Evolution.  The case is bigger than the folder so you will have to run it through twice.  I wasn't paying attention and pressed it further than the pattern on the die.  This gave it a line across the middle.  You can kind of see the line in the pictures.  It doesn't bother me too much, but if it's something that would bother you just pay closer attention on when to stop running it through the machine.



Isn't it so pretty?  I was super shocked at how well the leather took the embossing.  And now I can't wait to emboss all the things!
